Plant Your Deer Food Plots the Natural Way!

Over the last few years, deer food plot management has been the fastest growing segment of the multi-billion dollar hunting industry. People are growing wildlife food plots for several reasons: as an alternative to baiting; to encourage increased antler development; increased herd development; year round foraging; improved nutrient and vitamin supplementation; outbreaks of bovine tuberculosis; improved wildlife habitation and for people who just love to watch wildlife flourish.

Do It NOW!

Now is the time of the year to plant your turkey and deer food plots. This is the finest way to give back to nature some of what we have taken from it. Turkey and deer food plots do several different things for you and the wildlife you are trying to manage. Why not give the wildlife the best food possible by preparing your food plot using All Natural Liquid Organic Fertilizer. Enhance your food plot by providing the turkey and deer with a healthier diet that is also cost-effective. All Natural Liquid Organic Food Plot Fertilizer creates a deep root system that will make your wildlife food plot more drought resistant and keep the crop flourishing longer.

Better Food...BIGGER Game!

Food plots provide great forage for deer, turkeys, pheasants and other game. The different types of grains, clovers, beans and grasses offer game animals the proper vitamins, minerals and nutrients needed to maintain a healthy existence and prepare them for the winter. Different species of clover and alfalfa maintain their greenness under the snow, allowing foraging deer better choices of food during the bleak winter months. This gives the game a much better chance for survival.

Save Money and the Environment!

Hunters find this an excellent way to manage wildlife and become involved with the ecology of the systems they are building. More and more hunters are switching to All Natural Liquid Organic Fertilizer 4-3-3 and Liquid Lime from commercial chemical fertilizers. The cost of oil is pushing the cost of chemical fertilizers sky high!

Bye, Bye Chemicals!

The thought of replacing chemicals with organic fertilizers is very appealing. “Giving back to nature” is a phrase that is often heard, and that is what they are doing. They are replacing toxic chemicals with natural products that enrich the soil by providing microbial stimulation. This enhances the living and beneficial organisms in the soil that are needed for plants to grow and thrive.

Watch Them Grow and Develop!

Even if you are not a hunter, food plots are a great way to feed the wildlife and attract them to an area for you to observe them feeding, growing and developing. It is a win/win situation for all.

Spring and Fall Deer Food Plot Preparation

Food plots can range in size from 100 sq. feet to dozens of acres. They are grown in every area of the country and in all types of soils. The recommendations for starting your own food plot are as follows:

  • Get a soil analysis (multiple samples for bigger plots). This eliminates all the guesswork of what you are trying to achieve.
  • Brush-hog the area and then apply Round Up to defoliate the food plot. After ten days, power rake and or disc the defoliated area of dead leaves and grasses.
  • The soil should now be ready for seeding. After choos¬ing the seeds of your choice for deer, turkey, pheasant, quail, etc., apply the seed.
  • Apply a mixture of Natural Liquid Lime (NLL) and Natural Organic Fertilizer (NOF) in 50 to 60 gallons of water per acre, directly after seed¬ing the soil. The amount of NLL and NOF mix ratio will depend on your soil analysis. A typical mix ratio would be a gallon of each mixed with 50-60 gallons of water per acre. The great advantage of using all natural organic fertilizer products is that you can mix the products together and apply them at the same time.
  • A second foliar application should be applied about five to six weeks after seeding. The food plot should have about four to six inches of green-up at this time. Use the same mix ratio that was used at seeding time.
  • If the food plot was planted in March or early April, a third foliar application may be applied in early June.
  • Let the food plot go through its dormancy period throughout the summer. In mid to late September, apply one last foliar application. Not only are you fortifying the forage for the fall and upcoming winter periods, you are also invigorating the soil and protecting the plants from cold weather stresses.
  • Repeat this process the following spring. It doesn't matter whether you have an annual or perennial cropping system. Replenishing the soil with natural liquid fertilizer benefits not only the soil, but provides increased microbial and earthworm activity. An acre's worth of healthy earthworms produces 700 pounds of earthworm castings a day. Earthworms also provide ample soil aeration.

For whatever reason you choose to grow food plots, all natural liquid organic fertilizer is the natural choice to start and maintain food plot management for years to come.
